Chain Lightning Targeted Magic Spell

Description: The Chain Lightning spell unleashes blasts of lightning that randomly strike at targets who are currently engaged in combat with the caster. The caster may also intentionally increase the range of his spell to randomly strike at all targets in the area. To do this, he must CAST AREA. In either case, those protected by a discharged Ethereal Shield will not be struck.
Example Messaging: A lurid green bolt of lightning strikes a fendryad! The worst of the bolt misses, but tendrils of lightning lash out in passing to scorch its abdomen.

A lurid green bolt of lightning strikes a fendryad! The bolt grazes its chest, briefly surrounding its body in brilliant white sky-fire.

A lurid green bolt of lightning strikes a fendryad! A fendryad stares in shock at the remains of its right arm as it is blown completely off its body by the lightning bolt.

A lurid green bolt of lightning strikes a fendryad! The lightning bolt tears into its chest like a blast from Firulf's staff.

Notes

  • Can launch 8-22 bolts.???
  • The first bolt of the spell hits the intial or faced target, with remaining bolts spread among other targets.
  • Each target can only be hit with a maximum of 4 bolts.
  • CAST itself will only attempt to strike targets facing the caster. Caster must be at pole range if target isn't facing the caster, otherwise simply advancing and casting will work before target has time to engage.
  • CAST AREA will attempt to strike all targets in the area. As well as targets created from resulting deaths, such as Shalswars and Dragon Priests
  • Can strike targets that are hiding.
  • Compatible with the Pattern Hues cantrip.
  • The flashes of lightning can be seen from adjacent rooms.
