Unstable Ripplegates

Enter an unstable ripplegate to reach the Stone Rotunda where the Arbiter Ceryaen and the Merelew factions reside.

These ripplegates occur when walking around, and you see the following message: With a gurgle, a pool of water quickly bubbles up from the ground and lifts into the air. It begins to spiral, like a whirlpool turned on its side, forming an unstable ripplegate.

Unstable ripplegates will vanish after a set amount of time. When you exit the Stone Rotunda, you will return to the room where you entered the unstable ripplegate.

When a ripplegate closes, you will see the following message: Whatever magic held the ripplegate is no more. The cohesion is lost, and it collapses into a rapidly drying puddle.

The Stone Rotunda

[Stone Rotunda, Gathering Hall]
The circular room is massive and contains several tiered balconies reaching towards the dome overhead. Here, on the ground level, the space is open with only a rectangular stone table at its heart -- a centerpiece viewable from the countless elevated seats in the galleries above. Numerous tanks containing bioluminescent fish, corals and other sea-life line the walls, providing ample illumination for the chamber.
You also see a turbulent ripplegate, Arbiter Ceryaen, Form Shaper Vestaet, Transmuter Zaenen, Preserver of Balance Kixfa, Opportunity Broker Petret and Aluna's Protector Iaxet.
Obvious exits: east.

[Stone Rotunda, Alcove]
Set in a back corner of the chamber, the alcove contains a solid ripplegate that gleams with the light from the tanks set along the walls. The water spirals in an endless loop with the force of a waterfall. The mist surrounding the portal conceals whatever lies beyond it.
You also see a substantial watery ripplegate.
Obvious exits: west.

The substantial watery ripplegate leads to a number of distinct areas in the Tidal Flats, where you can complete your tasks. Please note that some of these spaces are underwater. While you can survive without it, you may want to use Air Bubble. Using Air Bubble will allow you to avoid panicking and getting hit with RT of 4-6 seconds (happen infrequently, maybe once every 45-60 seconds. You can purchase a 5-use simple lemicule wand that gives 10 minutes of Air Bubble per use in Fang Cove's Ocan's Bait and Tackle for 2,164 Dokoras.

Tasks

Arbiter Ceryaen can randomly assign you the following tasks. Declining a task results in a ten minute penalty until you can ask for another one. Use TASK command to see these details anytime after you receive a task.

General Kill Task

Arbiter Ceryaen gazes at one of the nearby watery portals. "The seas are in turmoil. Whether caused by or merely responding to the presence of the landwalkers' giant spider remains, beasts of the depths are rising. They have been twisted and corrupted, some of them reanimated from their death, including fallen Merelew."

Ceryaen shudders then adds, "We ask that you seek out these beasts and slay them, that Andreshlew and the life around our home may return to some semblence of norma

Mission

The Merelew island of Andreshlew has risen from the depths, but all is not well! Corrupted remnants of the massive arachnid have washed ashore and caused great disturbances for the Merelew people as well as the flora and fauna of the deep seas. Factions of the Merelew are vying for your support and help in cleaning Andreshlew.

You have been tasked with purging the land (and sea) of X beasts attacking the Merelew -- the decomposing Merelew, rockclaw lobsters, deeplight fish, nacre-plated Torbisan decapods and the deadly ambulatory coral reefs. You have killed Y thus far.

Walkthrough

Kill the number of mobs past the substantial watery ripplegate that you're instructed to kill.

Champion Kill Task

Ceryaen taps her trident on the floor in a TAP, TAP TAP, repeating pattern as she speaks, "Among all Elanthian life, whether on land or beneath the waves, great champions of exceptional wit, skill, talent or ability exist. The corrupted and risen foes that harass our domain as well as yours are no exception."

With an echoing rattle, Ceryaen raps her trident on the floor one last time. She says, "For the good of us all, I ask that you seek out such a champion and assist in slaying it."

Ceryaen asks, "This is the task set before you. Will you accept?"

Accept

Arbiter Ceryaen clenches her fist more tightly about the trident and says, "I faced such a monster before myself, in defense of Andreshlew. I know this can be difficult. Slay the lessers, and a greater challenge should reveal itself. If your allies are engaged with such a foe, aid them, for the benefit of all!"

With a swift motion, Ceryaen sweeps her trident out and uses it to point towards each of the nearby representatives. She says, "Venture forth through the ripplegates, as you like, to complete this mission."

Ceryaen has asked that you seek out a rather strong beast that's been harassing others trying to clean and purify Andreshlew and its surrounding seas. Slaying enough of its lesser breathren should summon it. Aid others also seeking such foes to share in the victory.

Walkthrough

Enter the substantial watery ripplegate and kill mobs until an ambulatory coral reef with labyrinthine grooves appears (then kill that!).

Clean Debris Task

Ceryaen sweeps her trident out perpendicular to her body and slowly rotates through a full circle, pointing with its golden tips to the areas surrounding you. At last, she says, "Our home is marred with giant pieces of metal, both the island and the surrounding waters. The plants of the deep grow swiftly, winding in, over and through these pieces, concealing them but allowing their corruption to continue spreading. The giant clams and other creatures ingest these fragments."

With a grunt of disgust, she says, "We ask that you join us in searching out these hidden sources."

Pieces of metal, semi-organic tomiek chitin, and other debris are littering Andreshlew and the seas. Ceryaen has asked that you do whatever it takes to find and remove X bits of this litter. Thus far, you have tended to Y.

Walkthrough

Enter the substantial watery ripplegate and STUDY objects that spawn in the area to learn which verb will clean the objects.

BARNACLES - CLEAN barnacle
CLAM - TICKLE clam (requires empty hands)
KRILL - WAVE krill
ROCKWEED- CLEAN rockweed (requires weapon)
SEA-CABBAGES - CLEAN sea-cabbage (requires weapon)
SEAWEED - PULL seaweed (requires weapon)

Recover Debris Task

Arbiter Ceryaen says, "I have a simple request, should you be willing to assist us. I ask only that you venture through one of the nearby portals and seek out more of corrupted items."

While many bits of debris have been discovered and are already being cleaned up, Ceryaen and the Merelew are convinced that smaller remnants are scattered across the seafloor and in some cases even being devoured by creatures of the depths! You were tasked with finding and recovering X. Thus far, you have discovered and dealt with Y.

Walkthrough

Enter the substantial watery ripplegate and SEARCH rooms to find debris. You can search multiple times in the same room, and you may also find debris when you SEARCH dead monsters.

Rewards

After completing some tasks, ASK Ceryaen about ecosphere. You will only be given one: do not lose it. As you continue completing tasks, ASK Ceryaen about ecosphere again to 'upgrade' it, until he tells you it can no longer be upgraded. Once you have standing stored in your ecosphere, you can SHOW ecosphere to the Merelew representative for the faction of your choosing. Your faction choice will determine the title you earn from completing tasks. You can also <ask Ceryaen about standing> to learn about your unpledged and pledged standing.

If you show your ecosphere to a second faction, your standing with your current faction will be reduced by half. This makes it impossible to max your standing with more than a single faction.

Faction Merelew NPC Title
Depth Shapers Form Shaper Vestaet Initiate Shaper
Inverted Crucible Transmuter Zaenen Tidal Mixer
Trickling Sun Preserver of Balance Kixfa Depth Preserver
Red Fan Traders Opportunity Broker Petret Tidal Broker
Supplicants of the Tide Aluna's Protector Iaxet Tidal Adherent

Once you have enough standing with your faction, ASK <FACTION LEADER> ABOUT STANDING and you will be given a pendant of chitin scrimshawed with the symbol of your faction.

<Merelew representative> hands you a pendant of chitin scrimshawed with the symbol of the <faction name>. She solemnly says, "This is a great gift, <name>. It is a gift of the seas, but also unique to you and a symbol of the respect the members of the <faction> have for you. It may seem simple, but it may also be of use to you in future visits. Treasure it if you might return to us some day. Do not ask for another if you lose it, for it is equally as disrespectful as asking for another ecosphere."

A scrimshawed pendant reads:
"Earned by <name>, visitor to Andreshlew and friend of the <faction name>. 436 A.V."

Note: 600 is enough standing to fully unlock your ecosphere, receive your title, and be given the pendant.

Task Areas

There are 5, randomly accessed areas that you can reach to complete the task requests. There is no difference between the areas for completion of the tasks, however each does have a different major "corruption" piece of the spider that is of note. Each of the 5 task areas will have 5 total rooms where you will find the creatures to kill, rooms to search and pieces of corrupted flora to clean up.

Randomly dropped in the areas are white fish eyes.
